Lanier High School audio-video teacher Tara Bordeaux was named the 2018 Texas Teacher of the Year

On Friday, Tara Bordeaux, learned she was anointed the 2018 Texas Teacher of the Year during the awards luncheon at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.

She saw students even when we couldn’t see themselves.” Bordeaux recalls having had a hard time in high school—even dropping out and contemplating suicide—and feeling saved by the teacher who lured her back to school, and made her feel seen, understood, and deeply cared for. Tara Bordeaux dropped out of high school but went on to become Texas Teacher of the Year. Bordeaux’s journey included a stop at UTA, where she earned her degree and learned from professors she describes as some of the most influential people in her life.
